This is exactly like real life. Fighters can feel the energy of other people. This is how they determine where they will be attacked. A highly skilled or experienced martial artist can hide this energy. He gives no clues to his opponent as to what he will do. Having no guard is part of this experience. If Master Roshi put up a guard, that is a clue as to what he is doing or thinking just as much as his energy is a clue as to what he is doing or thinking.

at :30 seconds, Master Roshi yells at someone so strongly they are blown off of the platform and into a wall. No. A person cannot blow a person off of a platform into a wall. But the basic idea demonstrated is part of kung fu.

A trained martial artist can use their voice as a weapon. The voice develops a tone and power and force that can overwhelm and control other people. It is possible for a person to use their voice to scare a fighter into moving away or actually push them away. The pressure of the voice forces the other person to step back.

at :43 seconds, Yamcha is wondering what skills Master Roshi has. Yamcha “I will attack him quickly and watch him move”. Excellent real life kung fu advice. If your opponent is unknown, do not commit yourself to an attack. Test him to see how he moves first. Then you can plan your attack to take advantage of your knowledge.

At 1:06 Master Roshi says something profound. He says “Your fighing moves are big and fun to look at, but most of them are just a waste of energy”. This is common with younger people or inexperienced people. They want to feel or look like they are dangerous. By using big moves, other people get the impression the man is dangerous. A real fighter can barely move and hurt someone. People cannot see it so it does not impress them.

Any energy used to make a move look flashy or big or to impress someone is energy that is not going into the opponent. That is why Master Roshi calls the big moves a waste of energy.

At 1:15 is a hilarious sequence. Yamcha tries to hit Master Roshi but he cannot. Master Roshi dodges the punches like he is one of those blow up dolls that kids punch. A highly skilled person can move so fast that a regular person looks stupid. They cannot move as is shown in the clip. The principle is the same.

This series of blog entries highlights various scenes in episodes of the Japanese Anime “Dragonball” that are related to or teach something related to either Yin Yang Theory or real Kung Fu.

[16

post-1458","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-dragonball-and-real-kung-fu
["GET
