A previous blog entry stated there was a column within the human body located as shown in the following picture.
There are more columns within the human body that the ancient peoples could have based their architectural columns on. It depends on how they thought. I used Greeks as examples of people inventing the column based on the human body column shown above. It is my feeling that the Greeks used this particular column for inspiration.
To be thorough, I need to point out some other columns within the human body. These columns are of similar importance to the one shown above. Either example could have been the inspiration for the early invention of the architectural column.
These two columns are meant to be shown with the boundary on the inside being the center line of the chest. The outer boundary of the columns would be outside either side of the body. These columns would be encircled by the arms if the arms were held in front of the body, then curled in so that the fingers of the hands touched.
I do not believe the Greeks or other western cultures used these columns. It is possible though. I believe these columns inspired other inventions that will be described in later blog entries.
