The outrigger canoe is based on unbalanced people. In the pogo stick example, I singled out homosexual people. They are the most obvious example. In actuality, there are many reasons for people to be unbalanced. The pogo stick and the outrigger canoe are based on how any unbalanced person behaves.

The unbalanced person will usually have a bad or weak leg. Becuase the leg is weak, the body does not stand on it, with the leg supporting the body weight and ready to move. Instead, the weak leg will be used as if it is a crutch. When standing the body leans on the leg. When moving, the leg is swung along to move it, the leg does not lift itself up and move itself as it should.

An canoe is a long and narrow boat. In rough seas, it will easily capsize. An unbalanced person standing on one leg will also easily capsize. The unbalanced person sticks out the weak leg and uses it to prop the body up so it will not fall over. Some inventive person noticed this phenomenon and thought to apply it to a canoe so that it does not capsize so easily.

An outrigger canoe has another flotation device off to one side of it. As the boat moves, it leans on the other flotation device. The canoe does not capsize anymore. Here is a picture of an outrigger canoe.

If you look at the outrigger canoe, it is a regular boat that leans out on a log that keeps it stable on the ocean. I claimed this was to mimic the way an unbalanced person whill stand on their good leg and lean on the bad leg to hold them up.

Here is a picture of a peg leg pirate. He is standing on one good leg. He leans over on the bad leg to support himself.

The pirate is obviously unbalanced. A person with two good legs can behave as if they are just as unbalanced as this pirate with only one leg does. The person will stand on the good leg and use the bad leg as a prop to lean on for support. Just like the boat of an outrigger leans on the log for stability on the ocean.
